As the arts and crafts director at a campground, I’ve tried numerous paint markers, and these are by far the best. We currently have about 15 sets, and I love that they’re ready to use immediately—there’s no need to press down to get the paint flowing, which is a huge time-saver before a class when I have to prepare ten sets! They perform excellently and the paint stays put, unlike some other brands that tend to bleed on surfaces like wood. I’ve used them on wood, rocks, ceramics, and canvas, and they’ve all worked wonderfully. They also dry quickly, making it much easier than using traditional paint. My only drawback is that sometimes people don’t secure the caps properly, leading to dried-out markers. I also appreciate that they offer a set of all black markers, as those tend to get damaged first by the guests.

This summer, we bought two brands of acrylic paint pens: Betem and Posca (the latter made in Japan, not China). Both have been a huge success! Initially, they were for the kids to paint lake rocks, but adults found themselves joining in and using the markers just as much, creating a wonderful interaction between kids and adults. Overall, we’re really pleased!
Betem offers more color options at a lower price and features dual tips—broad on one end and fine on the other. They recommend storing them horizontally rather than vertically. While the dual tips aren’t as significant a selling point compared to Poscas, which can achieve broad or fine lines based on pressure and angle, the extra colors and versatility are definitely appealing to kids.
However, we did encounter a minor issue with the Betem brand; they claim to work on glass, but our experience shows they do not. The Posca pens do work on glass (just let the paint cure overnight), but we found that Betem wouldn’t even write on glass surfaces. So, if you’re looking to decorate wine glasses or similar items, we can’t recommend Betem for that purpose.
Aside from that, both brands have been a hit. One last note: they also make for a fun rainy day activity, but it’s advisable to put down some paper first. We ended up with acrylic paint spots and smudges on our picnic table and deck—not a big deal in a kid-friendly outdoor space, but worth considering for other areas.
